- Writing was never my thing. But like for many others I suppose, one makes new discoveries as you go through life. And writing it was for me. It became cathartic. I'd write out reams and reams and it would just sit there, like an extension of my mind. But some experiences are worth sharing. So this is no "let's review the latest fashion trends", nor is it a discourse. Just a re-telling of what goes on in my rather un-silent but peaceful mind.

did u refer the original lyrics before you sang? I ask this question because Hariharan's rendition has too many pronunciation mistakes. The singing is really beautiful but I felt u were unsure on the words in some places.
1. It is suTTum not sooTTum. suTTum means indicating or gesticulating. sooTTum means to make wear. HH sings as suththum in live pgm which means revolving.
2. kollO not koLLO. The word kollO is one of the filler-words used in tamil poetry expressing a mild exclamation. koLLO means "is it horse-gram ?" :-) Tamil is very tricky.
3. it is neelak kaDal alai"yE" not "yai"
Listening to Hariharan was akin to listening a tamil ghazal. Yours is more on the carnatic side.
You are so right with about the pronunciations. I feel miserable about it. So much for being a Tam! I did realise the flaw in kollO, but thanks for pointing out the others. I thought I will re-sing it, but I almost never get down to doing that, which is why I am so skeptical putting stuff up on the blog. Even my Khamaj rendition needs some revision, which I actually managed but never bothered putting up.

Your beautiful singing in blog should not stop because you are making some very minor pronunciation errors.

I believe every human rendition is not without its errors since erring is human. It just adds a charm. So, don't stop yourself from posting your renditions if guys like me find something buggy. We do it only coz we have an interest in your singing.

It is like Tirunelveli Halwa. Originally ha;wa came from Rajasthan to tirunelveli and it is still made by some rajasthanis in tirunelveli. Then came another tamil store which produced its own version based on rajasthanis. Both are great to taste ! So it is just an observation not a judgment.

I set my tamil blog in my free time during my M.Tech. but couldn't improvise on it. I hope to get it rolling sooner or later. sorry, I cldn't reply to ur email as ter was no mail id in ur mail. n ur 'Suttum Vizhi Sudare' was really nice to hear, though I'm not a carnatic expert, I could still feel the essence of Bharathiyar's song in it! BTW, if I'm not wrong, u seemed to be not in touch with tamil music I couldn't believe that after hearing 'Suttum...' keep it going!!!
